Evelyn Grace Jackson was diagnosed with Stage IV MYCN amplified, ALK mutated neuroblastoma in July of 2021 when she was 20 months old. The mutations her cancer carried made it an aggressive form of disease but opened the door for targeted therapy and molecular monitoring – something rare in pediatric cancer care. Evelyn’s course of treatment was very hard. She spent more time in the PICU than any child her age should. But no matter where she was, she was LIVING life to the fullest. Chemo took away her hair, but she’d walk out the door with a stylish hat. Immunotherapy hurt her eyes, but she accessorized with hundreds of sunglasses. Treatment diminished her ability to hear, but she’d pop in her hearing aids to listen to her favorite music. Neuropathy in her feet meant it hurt to wear tap shoes, but she never complained and slipped on ballet shoes instead to keep dancing. This cancer took Evelyn’s life on June 1st, 2024. She was only 4 years old when she died but her life was a brilliant example of living Grace.
